Can you believe summer is over? We are gearing up for the fall and hope this newsletter will help to keep you informed of what is going on in our churches. Fred Bright has created a webpage for those who are computer savvy. Please check it out at: www.echobayunited.com. We also have an e-mail address if you wish to send questions/comments etc: firstname.lastname@example.org
Sunday school resumes at Bar River on September 9, 2007 with Noah’s Ark and ice-cream boats. Feel free to bring your child/grandchild whenever you are able. The children are taught lessons from both the Old and New Testament and enjoy learning songs, hearing bible stories and making crafts. They also take part in the church service three times during the course of the year. If you have further questions please contact Jo-Anne Entwistle (248-2355).
If you or your child is heading out of town to attend university and would like to receive letters/notes/updates etc., please let Cathy know their postal or e-mail address.
Echo Bay U.C.W. Turkey Supper on September 26th. An event not to be missed! Watch for posters for further details.
Bar River holds a Coffee Hour at 9:00 a.m. every second Sunday of the month. It is a wonderful time to catch up with your neighbours. Please join us! The first Sunday of each month is the time Echo Bay feeds both body and soul with lunch following their service. Everyone is most welcome to attend.
SEPTEMBER 9, 2007
Echo Bay UCW will be awarding Life Membership Pins during the service. This is quite on honour for the receivers and we plan to celebrate in the way we do best - with a Pot Luck lunch following the service!
UNITED CHURCH WOMEN:
Both Bar River and Echo Bay have active UCW groups that strive, as stated (in part) in our Purpose “To unite women of the congregation … in Christian witness, study, fellowship and service”. You do not have to be a member to attend a meeting. Please feel free to come at any time to check us out and see if you would like to be a part of our group.
Bar River UCW meets the first Monday of the month at members homes. For further
information, please call Kim Evoy at 248-1746.
Echo Bay U.C.W. meets in the Meeting Room at the church at 7:00 p.m. the first Thursday evening of the month. All are welcome to attend. For further information call Myra MacDonald (248-2207).
Calendars will be available soon. This project supports Echo Bay and Bar River Congregations and the Outreach Committee.
ANNUAL FALL HARVEST SUPPER:
Make sure you mark November 3, 2007 on your calendar. That will be Bar River's annual fall Harvest Supper. Watch for posters.
NEW PROPERTY IMPROVEMENT:
Echo Bay has undergone some improvements to the church grounds. Thanks to everyone who helped!
Thanks go out to everyone who has helped maintain the church grounds and flower beds at both points. We have such dedicated volunteers! Their results are always visible (even if they aren’t) and greatly enjoyed.
If you know of a church member who is sick at home or in hospital who would appreciate a visit or card, please inform Ross Hurley or Lois Gormley.
COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS DINNER:
This is your advance notice for the annual Community Christmas Dinner, November 18, 2007. This event is always well attended by both hungry community members and willing volunteers. Admission is by donation and monies raised are used by the Outreach Committee to provide Christmas Cheer hampers to members of the community. Meals are delivered to shut-ins so please be sure to let us know (Jeanette Halcrow, 248-2488) if you, or anyone you know, could use this service.
Plans are underway and we will let you know further details once all dates etc. are confirmed. Stay tuned! Did you know we have a Ministry and Personnel Committee?
Hopefully you received, or will be receiving, a survey which this committee has asked you to fill in to provide input to help them fulfill their responsibility to conduct an annual review of ministry personnel and staff members of the Pastoral Charge. This committee is also responsible for:
- reviewing working conditions
- providing consultation/support for staff and congregation
- overseeing the relationship between staff and members of the congregation
- liaison with Presbytery
- annual reviews of staff
If you have any further questions about this committee, please speak with one of the four members, which are: Fred Bright, Ruby Vaughan, Jo-Anne Entwistle, Tom Headrick.
