Echo Bay United Church Sunday School 2008
Our Sunday School started 2008 with our 2nd annual Breakfast with the Wisemen. We invited both Bar River and Desbarats Sunday Schools to join us. Colleen Alloi provided us with a real lamb for the event. where we had yummy pancakes cooked by Gerald and Judy Mills, then the pageant, crafts and baking.
January to June lessons were taken from the Old Testament. We had a trip to the Synagogue that was hampered by a snow storm, however our small group had a wonderful mini tour.
Father’s Day saw us making fudge which we passed out to the men of the congregation . F riends, U ncles, D ads, G randpas, E veryone! In June we had a marvelous picnic at Bellevue Park where we played old fashioned games and had great food. Every child and teacher got a “Walk the Walk” embroidered hat.
We started the fall session with our traditional Sundae Sunday for all the kids and adults. Lessons were from the Power Lab which focuses on science and fun ideas that tie in to the stories of the bible.
White Gift Sunday was presented to the congregation by over 20 children.
The children also did their part for outreach. On Valentines Day and Halloween they prepared gift bags to be given to children on the pediatric ward of the Sault Area Hospital . At Christmas, the children painted wooden ornaments, made candy cane reindeer and hand made cards for 30 residents at Algoma Manor who don’t receive visitors.
We ended the year with a memorable New Year’s Eve sleepover in the church with the teen class. We played many games and had fun snacks. A great time!
Lurch, our Sunday School gecko mascot continues to be popular.
The teaching staff during 2008 included Candace Withers, Vivian Hall, Cathy Bright and Myra MacDonald. We had great support and guidance from treasurer Lorna Greene.
